Student Life

Calling all film fanatics! If you already have the perfect TV package (click here for more information) but you still miss the big screen, don’t despair! Here’s our top film picks this summer.

What’s already on:

Men in Black: International

If you missed this beloved film series, you have to check this new addition out. Whilst you shouldn’t expect to see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as the beloved Agents J and K, you won’t be disappointed. Newly recruited Agent H (H for HANDSOME Chris Hemsworth) and Agent M (M for MAGNIFICENT Tessa Thompson) tackle the biggest biggest threat yet - a mole within the Men in Black organisation.

Toy Story 4

A long-awaited sequel of the beloved Toy Story film series is finally here. Reunite with your old friends Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang in this feel-good nostalgic animated family comedy.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Following the bombshell events of Avengers: Endgame, Tom Holland as Spiderman must step up yet again to tackle the challenges of the forever changing world.

What to anticipate:

Annabelle Comes Home: 10th July

Seventh addition to the Conjuring Universe franchise is coming our way in a couple of days. If you are a fan of the creepy doll Annabelle, you’re in for a treat. In this new supernatural horror, produced by James Wan, Annabelle is back again and it awakens the room’s evil spirits. Will the children with their young babysitter be able to escape?

The Lion King: 19th July

Disney’s The Lion King is getting a new live-action remake with incredible CGI, vamped up music and jam-packed dubbing cast. One of the most anticipated movies of the year is directed by Jon Favreau and Donald Glover is taking on the role of Simba. In the true Disney fashion, we can expect this film to also make you laugh, cry and want to see it again and again.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobb and Shaw: 1st August

The first Fast & Furious spin-off builds on the previous success of The Rock and Jason Statham’s buddy cop action by adding the charismatic and ever-so handsome Idris Elba to the mix. Watch the cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton fight the audience-beloved duo Hobbs and Shaw whilst they destroy half of the city so that you can enjoy all the explosions and car crashes you could ever want.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: 14th August

This upcoming comedy/drama/crime thriller penned by Quentin Tarrantino and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie was so highly praised in Cannes, people have not yet stopped talking about it. Set in 1969 Los Angeles, it is a true (-ish) story of the Manson Murders and it is the perfect mix of nostalgia, glamour and violence. Basically everything you must love about Golden Age Hollywood.

Good Boys: 16th August

If you’re looking for something rather light, give Good Boys a try. From watching the trailer, one can get the gist of movie’s tone: funnily rude (or rudely funny?) comedy about three six grade boys, featuring drugs, sex and action. Simply put a perfectly light watch for the summer.

It: Chapter Two: 6th September

As the summer closes to its end, clown enthusiasts can get excited for the second instalment of the 2017 hit It. Based on Stephen King’s terrifying story, the evil clown Pennywise returns 27 years later to torture the members of the Loser’s club, who have since gone each their own way. Can you face the scary red balloon again?

It almost feels like we will be spending all our time at the cinema this summer with all these amazing releases. Which one are you most excited about?
