Benefits of a pooch in the workplace!

Friday 21st June 2019 was national Bring Your Dog to Work Day, so we hope you took full advantage and filled the office floor with your fluffy little friends!

It's no surprise that pets in the workplace brings a more relaxed, productive and enjoyable environment. I mean, who doesn't want a little snuggle from a puppy every hour of the day?

Why you should enlist a four legged friend for the office:
  1. Reduces stress
    Believe it or not, looking into the eyes of a dog is an instant mood booster, (try it if you don't believe me) and by some miracle the stress of work seems to disappear into thin air as soon as a pet is around; coincidence, I think not! It has also been proven that petting a dog relieves stress (they aren't therapy animals for no reason); the act of patting an stroking a dog reduces blood pressure and changes your physiological state into a more relaxed mode and overall makes you feel better!

  2. Encourages healthy living
    Human + dogs = walks! By having an office dog, it will promote a healthier lifestyle for staff as all dogs require walking from time to time. Sharing out the dog walking duties between colleagues will encourage employees to be active and get some fresh air, which is good for our well-being not just the dogs!

  3. Brings the team together
    An office pet can be a massively powerful bonding tool! Most of the time, people like to keep themselves to themselves; so how would this change if a pet was introduced to the workplace? IMO, instantly everyone would want to be where the dog is, and there you have it, they're all spending time with each other too!

  4. Increased productivity
    A 'Dogs at Work Policy' is viewed by most employees as a valuable employment perk. A recent study showed that over two fifths of employees would want to see pets allowed in the office, 39% felt that pets at work would increase their productivity and 50% believed it would increase their happiness at work! So, which puppy are we all getting?

  5. Pets won't have to be left alone
    If you have a pet, you will understand the importance of monitoring your time out of the house to not leave them on their own for too long! Therefore, bringing your pet to work means you don't have to worry about leaving them in the house, or rushing home at lunch time to let them out for the toilet. This may encourage your staff to work longer hours as it means they won't be dashing out the door to get home to their animals.

Before you introduce a Dogs at Work Policy it's worth doing some research first:

  • Check that animals are allowed in the building
  • Make sure no one in the building is allergic or scared of dogs
  • Be sure the dog is trained
  • Make sure there is no means of escape for the animal
  • Provide necessary food, drink, cool area etc. for the dog
